Both men and women have achieved great successes in different walks of life. They are famous politicians, prime ministers, actors, scientists, astronauts, engineers, doctors etc. Speaking of medicine, both men and women are present in distinctive fields like radiology, internal medicine, orthopedics, neurology, cardiology, etc. If you had to get a heart surgery done and you had an option of a man or woman doctor with equal number of years, successes and failures, under whose knife would you prefer your ailing heart to go? Nidhi Kathuria finds out

Sex won’t determine the decision, as long as they know what they are doing. I am fine with either sex. But I have to admit that it wouldn’t hurt to know their track record-successes and failures and also about their temperaments. The doctor should be calm and do what is required at the critical moment and not freeze. I have to admit I do know someone who wouldn’t ever trust a woman doctor. The argument: Though more men die of heart attacks, women are the weaker specie. I don’t want a woman doctor to faint on me at the gory site of blood. And you know the funny part? The person I am talking about is a woman!

That’s an easy one... I would go to the one with the steadiest hand!! For something as critical as heart surgery, I don’t mind if the doctor is a man or a woman. Rather, I would go to the one with the most impressive credentials. If he or she were to open up my heart, there better be a long list of alphabets (read: MBBS, MD, etc) behind their name. But that’s just me... Reality check to a very large extent there are certain professions that are more suited to one gender over the other, not because of the gender itself, but more so because of the distinct personality traits that are inherently required to be successful in that line of business. I am highly in favor of equal opportunity employment and breaking the glass ceiling, and am totally against gender discrimination. But I also believe in the right person doing the right job be it a man or a woman!!
